WHAT IS MANDELA DAY?

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela

CAST ON 4 KIDS
18 JULY 2018:
11H00 – 14H00
AT ERINVALE ESTATE HOTEL & SPA

SQUARES, SCARVES & STORYBOOKS!

This year we are appealing to you to knit or crochet SQUARES for blankets, SCARVES for children and for those of you who prefer, to bring STORYBOOKS and join us on 18th July 67 minutes.

SQUARES
Please bring your squares and join us to knit more on the day if you can – to help making up blankets please aim for squares of 150 x 150mm.  If you are able to stitch the squares up to make a blanket, the suggested size is 1.05 x 1.2m (the children sleep on individual small mattresses).  Fleece blankets are also very welcome – easy to wash and dry!

SCARVES
The suggested length is 1.5m (here’s a happy hint – the children LOVE having little pockets at each end to their scarves!).

STORYBOOKS
These can be in English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa and suitable for 0 – 6 years of age.  We will have a book-covering station set up on the day for you to join in and help to protect the donated books, so don’t worry if you are not a knitter!

NOTE:  Please bring your own needles and wool to the event – and a spare set if you are happy to teach someone else your skill.

We will collate and distribute all contributions to the children in the ECD Centres we mentor in the surrounding marginalised communities.
